How to use these pages
- Open enrollment runs October 15 to December 7, 2026. Plan changes take effect January 1, 2027.
- Start with your doctors and drugs. A plan with a lower premium is not a better fit if your doctor is out of network or a prescription is not covered.
- Compare the out-of-pocket maximum along with the premium, since it caps what covered care can cost in a year.
- Check your exact ZIP code. County totals are a starting point; the ZIP code lookup shows plan counts for your ZIP code.
Questions about these county pages
Which counties have a Medicare Advantage page here?
The 40 largest US counties by population (Census Vintage 2025 estimates) that have Medicare Advantage plans in the CMS 2027 landscape and whose plan data is not identical to another county's. They are in 15 states.
Why are some large counties missing?
A county is listed only when its CMS plan data differs from every other county's. Wayne County, MI, Franklin County, OH, Oakland County, MI, and Salt Lake County, UT have the same general Medicare Advantage plan list as at least one other county, so they are left out here.
Where do the numbers come from?
From the CMS Medicare Advantage and Part D Landscape source file for contract year 2027 (release 202609.1, data last updated September 22, 2026) and the CMS 2027 Star Ratings tables (October 8, 2026). Each county page lists its sources and what is counted.
How do I see plans for a county that is not listed?
Use the ZIP code lookup on this site for plan counts by ZIP code, or Plan Finder at Medicare.gov. Your State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP) gives free help comparing plans.
Sources and what is counted
Source: CMS Medicare Advantage and Part D Landscape source file, contract year 2027, release 202609.1 (file cy2027-landscape-202609-1.zip, CY2027_Landscape_202609.csv), data last updated September 22, 2026; CMS 2027 Part C and D Star Ratings data tables (Summary Ratings table), October 8, 2026; U.S. Census Bureau Vintage 2025 county population estimates (July 1, 2025). Plans counted by Senior Transition Assistance.
Counties are listed by population, largest first. A county page is published only when its CMS plan data is not identical to any other county's. Special needs plans, cost plans, employer-only plans and stand-alone Part D plans are not in the counts, and they are not part of that comparison.
